Her early career was deliberately non-linear: she worked as a trading assistant on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, then left for editorial roles at Mademoiselle and Gourmet magazines, while simultaneously bartending, hip-hop dancing, and working as a Nike fitness instructor to pay rent in New York City.
